ROW80 Update

The good news is I am right on track with my daily word count goals. Monday I knocked off 2143; yesterday I managed 2079. Today isn't over yet, but I should make it to 2070, no sweat.

The bad news is that the manuscript that started out at over 70,000 words has been revised down to just under 50,000 - meaning that, moving forward I have to write more than 35,000 words from scratch. By the end of July, according to plan.

Overall, I am pleased with the work I have done so far. The writing gets better with every pass. But I have characters to develop, holes to fill. Yep - what remains is more than a little daunting.

Unfortunately, I am going to have to put the revision on hold - at least for the most part - until I finish writing my chapter of a group novel project I am writing with the Petit Fours and Hot Tamales. Linsey, if you're reading this, I promise you'll have my pages by Sunday night.

There. I said it.

How are the rest of you doing? I would love to hear about your progress, whether you're participating in ROW80 or not. Leave a comment and let us cheer you on!

Great job on those word counts.

I know what you mean about cutting so many words during a rewrite. I've cut about 10K from my first novel, now it's only about 55K, but it feels succinct to me, so I hate to throw in words just because.

Thanks, Jessica. It's funny looking back on some of this now. Obviously, when I wrote it, I thought it was good. Now I wonder who that woman was. LOL! Thank you for stopping by and commenting.

Yep, S.M. Who knew I was capable of producing so much GARBAGE??? Slash, slash, slash, write, slash some more...

I envy the word count you're pumping out. Hm, maybe I should go check out what Row80 is all about.

Check it out, Cherie! Basically you set your own goals and you are allowed to tweak them as you go to allow for life's little interruptions. But it still provides accountability, and we can all benefit from that, I think. Thanks for stopping by!

Good luck with all the new words! A group novel sounds like fun :-)

Thanks, Deniz! Working on the group novel IS fun, although I have never written a mystery before. I am almost finished with my chapter at this point; I'll let you know how it goes!
