I'm a loser, baby
At least where NaNoWriMo is concerned. I fell far short of my goal of writing 50,000 words in 30 days; I managed to eke out only 15,006. Which makes me, officially, a loser.
Except 15,006 words averages out to 500 words a day for the month, which is actually fairly respectable, specially if you consider everything else I had on my plate. Presenting at the state music teacher's conference. Beading To Beat Autism. Going on a cruise.
Next year, I will sign up for NaNoWriMo again; this year, I'm going to give myself an attagirl for effort. I am certain that I wouldn't have written as many words as I did if not for the challenge. And I'm still writing; I even submitted two queries yesterday, one including a requested partial. Keep your fingers crossed for me.
Congratulations to all the 2012 winners! Declare yourselves in a comment so we can celebrate with you!

In no way are you a loser. And my fingers are crossed :)
Thanks, Gabrielle. You just brought a big smile to my face. :-)
I'm a loser this year, too, but I finished my novella, so I still win. There's always next year, and all those other Nano-wannabe months. :D
Congrats on finishing your novella, Noelle. I'd say that definitely makes you a winner! And, as you said, there's always next year! :-)
You Go Girl! What u accomplished makes u a winner because you tried, having not tried at all would have made you a loser and u r certainly far from that!
Thank you, Leanne. It was really hard for me to give up the goal having declared it publicly, but like you said, at least I tried. Thank you for your vote of confidence! :-)
I'm so proud of you!! You wrote and you had so much on your plate. Way to go!!!
Some words of wisdom by Jackie Gleason--I have a 'Play The Melody' philosophy. It means don't over-arrange, don't make life difficult. Just play the melody—and do it the simplest way possible.
Thank you, Christine. I really did have a lot on my plate in November. It was a big deal to speak at the state music teacher's conference, to take on the challenge of making and selling 300 bracelets in 30 days, and taking my son on a much-needed vacation. Something had to give, and it turned out to be NaNoWriMo. But I am off to a strong start on my next novel. Watch out world, here I come! :-)
That's good advice from Jackie Gleason, Mom. I'm going to remember that! :-)
That's a wonderful word count! I'd love to be able to write 500 words a day! And you have managed that with more on your plate than me! Congrats!
Squee! That's awesome on all counts.
Fingers crossed!
I hold my breath every time I open my email, S.M....
My word count stands at zero, so what does that make me? ;)
Technically, Eric, we're both losers. But you'll always be a winner in my book! :-)
Pam, I only got 20,008. But I love every word I wrote and I did write most days. I take pride in every word.
I have done Nano in the past and completed it or "won", but I have never been as completely pleased with my writing and my efforts as I am this year.
So take pride in what you have written and making the effort to do it at all!!!
Wow, Eli, that's awesome! Thank you for sharing your experience and making me feel better about mine! :-)
You did an AWESOME job!!! And think of how much you did with so much going on. Seriously, you are way ahead of more people than you realize.
:)
Thanks, Tami. I know I did the best I could. And I am really okay with that. Thanks, as always, for your support!
